  Sucker Punched   “Mom, of all the jobs to get why would you pick THAT one?”   I understand my son’s question.   For eight years while raising him and his brother, I also took care of my mother as she fought and eventually succumbed to lung cancer.   Years of doctor visits, treatments, and ultimately home hospice care left me exhausted.   So when I needed to take on a second job, accepting a position as a caretaker came as quite a surprise to my boys.   “I know baby” I told him.   “But honestly, it’s work that I’m comfortable with.   And if I have to spend extra hours doing something, I would rather do this.   At least this time I get to come home, and I can sleep through the night.”   “I guess,” he replied, a shadow crossing his face.   “I admire you mom, I couldn’t do it again.”   I used to worry about my boys living with their grandmother and watching her fade away.   But I think, well, I hope, it helps them u...
